Welcome

When you hear STEM for the first time a few meanings for the term will appear in your mind. You could be thinking about stem cell research and how it is illegal in America, the stem on a plant or that it is a new slang term for stimulation.

No one will blame you if you thought any of the three possible meanings mentioned, especially the last one the way new slang terms pop up these days. On this site, STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Throughout the site, you will discover information about STEM and how it relates to the average citizen, like you.

What is STEM

As stated above, STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Collectively, they are the core technological areas of an advanced society, according to both the National Research Council and the National Science Foundation. In numerous ways, a nation's STEM workforce is the main indication of that nation's ability to be able to sustain itself.

As far as the United States goes, we have one of the Strongest STEM workforces in the world, however, there has been a strong decline of young citizens pursuing STEM related careers. To solve this problem, in recent years the U.S. government has put more emphasis on STEM education in the educational agenda of all students, mainly focusing on students in grades K-12.
